The petition urged the company to recall all Tesla automobiles, the Mannequin S, Mannequin X, and Mannequin 3, produced starting in 2013. It cited media reviews of crashes attributed to unintended acceleration and complaints filed with NHTSA.
Tesla mentioned the petition was “utterly false” and was introduced ahead by a short-seller.
Brian Sparks, who’s at the moment shorting Tesla inventory, based on CNBC, submitted the petition in September.
“Over the previous a number of years, we mentioned with NHTSA nearly all of the complaints alleged within the petition. In each case we reviewed with them, the information proved the automobile functioned correctly,” Tesla mentioned in a weblog put up.
A spokesman for NHTSA on Monday declined to touch upon Tesla’s assertion. The company mentioned final week it “will fastidiously evaluate the petition and related knowledge.”
Sparks couldn’t be instantly reached for remark.
