Fb reaches $550 million settlement in facial recognition lawsuit

(Reuters) – Fb Inc (FB.O) mentioned on Wednesday it reached a $550 million settlement in precept associated to a lawsuit that claimed it illegally collected and saved biometric information for tens of millions of customers with out their consent.

The lawsuit started in 2015, when Illinois customers accused Fb of violating the state’s Biometric Info Privateness Act in amassing biometric information.

Fb allegedly achieved this by way of its “Tag Solutions” characteristic, which allowed customers to acknowledge their Fb associates from beforehand uploaded photographs.

In a press release, regulation corporations Edelson, Robbins Geller and Labaton Sucharow mentioned the plaintiffs will ask the district court docket to present preliminary approval for the settlement.
